At my house, I often times will use the old standby, “I’m the boss and I said so” to get my children to mind. For Peanut and Princess, this will typically go over well, without much debate.
Bubba, however, likes to try and determine different places where I am not the boss. He uses this tactic when he has been told that he can or cannot do different things. Here are a few of the funny places where he believes I have no reign:
Fareway: I told him he couldn’t sit underneath the cart while shopping. To which he replied: ” Mom, you are not the boss here. The guys that work here are the bosses.” Sadly, this theory turned out incorrect
The Salon: He and I had appointments for haircuts. He wanted to do sit in a different area, and I told him that he probably wouldn’t be able to. He replied: “Mom, you are not the boss at the hair-cutting place. That lady that cuts my hair is the boss.” Again, he was wrong.
When all else fails, home again: He is still testing out the theory that he only has one boss at home, not two. And that I may not actually be the main boss. I told him no to something last week. He replied: “Mom, you are not the boss here. Dad is because he is taller than you”. While it is true that his dad is taller than me, he was surprised to find out that we share boss responsibilties!
